My
design work samples from college classes, internships,
and design competitions. Gallery samples include; package work,
logo design, photography and promotional work.
This piece was created to advertise a fictional fund raiser based out of the World Wildlife Foundation. The group created was known as Shark Tagger, whose objective was to education potential students about the breeding patterns of tiger and hammer head sharks. The package included a letter explaining the plan, a donation envelope, a thank you letter, a package for shipping, and a logo was created as well. I wanted to create something the potential patron may want to keep long after their donation. The package is in the shape of a giant shark, along with the donation envelope. Additionally the letter is a pair of goggles the shark can wear and when the patron receives their thank you letter it can fit in the shark's daicut mouth.
These images were created to show both sides of the controversial issue of capital punishment. I really enjoyed setting up the shoot and one of the more difficult parts was making the lights cast beams for specific illumination.
A poster created for the Siggraph 09 poster contest “network your senses.” I wanted the poster to be light hearted and comical. The piece is stylized after 1950's cartoons. Colors are kept to a minimum so as to not over power the simplicity of the design
For this project I took a local business and completely revamped their mage. The project included a new identify logo, newsletter, envelope, t-shirt, mouse pad, signage and a car. Additionally I created a fictitious event for the business to host as well.
This was something I decided to do for my internship. They’ve been established for about 4 years and none of the previous members tried to design an effective logo. I based the logo on a mascot the club had from its early days, it was pretty much a spotted green rabbit. The logo is currently used on any projects or events sponsored by the club.
A brochure designed for K.A.S. members going to No Brand Con 09, an anime convention in Eau Clare, WI. The brochure is used for beginners to conventions and contained information like, key con events, a map of the floor, common convention rules, and a special car holder for the hotel room key.
These were shirt designs I created for a contest hosted by the Es¬capist web site. My shirt designs were based on one of their more popular series “Zero Punctuation.” Of the 200+ entries in the com¬petition my design was chosen in one of four categories and within a month’s time the green tee will be available for purchase on the escapist web site.
A full sized poster based on the musical film, “Once.” It was a lot of fun setting up the shot and making the image look authentic. The greatest challenge of the poster was shooting the models without exposing their faces.
fund raiser project created for my internship with a campus club. Part of the project required me to create advertisement to seek potential artist to submit original artwork. After I received the artwork I edited the images and assembled them in a book layout. Additionally I designed the cover and some extra content on the inside. The book is currently on sale at the campus’ university center and the club’s office.
The first project created for my internship. They asked me to produce a poster that showed club meeting and location times. I decided to design three different posters and was later hung around campus and local businesses.
Graphic Design
Here
are a few of choice piece of digital illustrations, most of which of
which is currently fanart and competition work, but expect a lot more original work in the near future. To see more of my digital artwork, check out my DA gallery
I wanted to create a picture for Nintendo's latest female royalty, Rosalina and Midna. The design for this picture is so it change be rotated to suit the viewer's person preference of view. This was also my first attempt at an outer space background.
Ever wonder what happens when artist play too many video games? The inspiration for this idea was actually a collaborative effort from a former colleague and me. We both designed our own renditions of this idea of two Naruto characters building a sandcastle. For a full back-story check out the link on the lower right side.
This illustration was created for a contest on DeviantART to cel¬ebrate the release of Okami on the Wii console. For the contest we were to make some “fan” based imagery for the game in a standard print format. I chose to use the characters from the game in a parody C. M. Coolidge’s “Dog’s Playing Poker”.
Xenosaga was always one of my favorite games, sure the cut scenes were painfully long and the second game was a complete bomb but the characters were pretty cool. This was homage to my team I used in the game, who ironically were the only characters to either die or get banished at the end of the game, lucky me.
I'm a big fan of Bleach and as a little "what if" project I turned 13 normal characters from the series into captains, a high ranking officers of souls. To see them all up close and with more detailed descriptions, please follow the link on the lower right side.
This was an entry piece for Don’t Panic’s Street Fighter 4 competi¬tion, entries chosen to win would not only receive a cash prize but would be use as part of Capcom’s promotion to sell the game. The objective of the competition was to recreate a character from the game in your own style. While I wasn’t a big fan of the series, and I haven’t played the new game, I chose to enter this competition because I remember the nostalgic thrill I had playing the 2nd game as a child.

In my free time
I also enjoy doing concept art,
while my samples are limited, theses pieces are more “well represented”
than most of my others. Expect more to come very soon.
A character I asked to create for fanfic sub story of the anime Bleach. Du'o is an arrancar, basically a soul eating ghost, who join up with a squad of soul reapers, self explanatory, squad and acts as their lead scientist. I struggled a lot with Du'o release form concept but I'm really satisfied with the final product. Additionally I drew some scene from the story a chance to practice scene shots and speed painting.
I like to use this piece as an example for my caricature skills. The idea was for a botch movie poster about a legendary case of beer that held 48 cans.
ChinWei is a character I created for a series, currently in production. I like to use this as an example of my concept process. (from left to right) early small scale, color test, final design.
Concept Art
Additionally I like
to do comic art; it started off as extracurricular activity
or the school paper but eventually turned into a personal enjoyment. The series differ in genres ranging from humor to adventure.
If you haven't guessed by now I'm an anime fan and this comic is an illustrated representation on a skit I wrote for an anime convention. Sadly the skit was never preformed but I liked it so much that I made this comic. If you wish to see the audio rendition, click the image or check out my video page.
As part of a project I decided to research and create my own graphic novel. The end result was Enforcers paranormal, a fantasy adventure story about betrayal and espionage.
Volume one of Enforcers Paranormal focus around the characters (from left to right); Emily(Em), Gabriella, Bethany, Sybil and Lucas. These were the final concept images for the characters.
Sample page from Enforcers Paranormal vol.1
I wrote this comic as something to submit to my college's paper but even after I stopped writing for the paper I continued writing the story. The series tends to focus around Eric (far left) a misguided youth who's just trying to make his way in the world but is constantly side tracked by things like ghost of relatives, fat ninjas and his roommate Travis (far right).
Sometimes you have to wonder...
Can you feel the love? (not best title I've used for a strip)
Old comic I found in my file cabinet, one of my personal favorites.
The return of Fat Ninja!
I have nothing against anyone who does the Hare Hare Yukai, I mean I've memorized the dance for christ's sake, this is just a personal belief of mine.
If I'm late to the Haruhi jokes, why not with Gurren Lagan?
The real reason for the economic decline.
Comics
Ahh yes,
my video section, various mediums of storytelling
that I thought were too good to just let go. Don’t know if I’ll be doing anything
more with them in the future, but it still was fun at the time.
Videos
I guess
I should probably introduce myself. For those of you who don’t know
me I'm Ryan Tidball. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin: Stevens Point in the spring of 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
When I'm not drawing or working I like playing video games, watching movies and various other "nerd" stuff. Most of the time I'm an easy going person so I don't mind answering questions if you got them.
